We crossed the border, and felt like „home” almost : ) : ) Peru was a country we already knew, a place where we knew what to expect, what to eat, and how to make our way : ) After running through new places every day for the last couple of months, it felt good to return to something familiar : )
The culture wasn’t new to us, however, AREQUIPA was! We decided to go through this town, because of the Colca Canyon. The city itself was actually pretty charming, and we spent one day just walking around the streets and squares, like always : ) We then took a tour to the canyon, which is 3 hours away from Arequpia, to see the famous terraces built by the Inca population, and the famous condors, also known as “the King of the Sky”. Did you know that they are living for 60-70 years?! We were there early in the morning, and observed how the condors were flying higher and higher. The sun raised, the temperature of the air increased on higher level, and the condors were slowly flying up from the canyon. We could really see where exactly the air still was cold, since they did not fly above it, and a couple of minutes later they tried again. Very interesting to see!
After a long day in the car, we met up with a couch surfer – Hernan – to have some local beers! A crazy dude from Arequipa! : ) Great fun, and a nice evening!
The next morning, the Chili River was waiting for us! We did an activity we have been trying to do during the whole trip, and finally decided to actually try it – RAFTING!!! And it was really cool! What was even more cool was that we got some good shots! Have a look, and have a laugh – that’s ok : )
Happy and barely moving after the rafting, we jumped on the last bus to finish our loop in South America – to LIMA! “Only” 17 hours!
