New Zealand » South Island – half way through!
2012-02-23 ( Thursday ) 20:08:45 GMT+1
We started our stay in New Zealand with a warning from the Kiwis (New Zealanders) on the airport, for “dirty shoes”. Soil on anything is strictly forbidden… and we had our tracking shoes from Australia…not in their best condition maybe... And our poor little tent went through the hardest inspection ever! : )
Anyway, we slept at a backpackers place the first night, in Wellington, to catch a ferry to the South Island the next day. We had a car booked from Picton (nice deal!), and luckily the man at the airport gave up in the end and we had our tent with us! We were sorted for the coming two weeks!
The South Island is the last part we actually do together! : ( When we will return to Wellington, Magda is returning to Australia to her family again, and Jessie and Andrew is continuing with the North Island… as planned, we are then leaving to US and we will try to get to Latin America as well! More than 50% of our trip is done, and at the moment we are as far as one can get from home, which means that we are slowly going back, from now on… Mixed feelings on that one!
The way from the North to the South Island was something absolutely amazing… a bit cold, but the views compensated it all! Mountains and water… is there a better connection? We don’t know any better! : ) The nature is just wonderful, and the views are spectacular… unreal almost!
The best part is that we are actually in the middle of everything ALL THE TIME… Since we are tenting in the middle of the forest, or in the mountains, next to lake, or near the beach – we cannot come any closer! And we cannot make it any cheaper! Beautiful (as the Australian says)! : )
Andrew and Magda climbed the Fox Glacier together! We woke up that day next to the beach, with the view on the top of the mountains and the glacier… another fantastic view… How does that cheeky sentence in movies sound?
“Life is not about how many breaths you take, but about the moments that takes your breath away”… or something similar. On trips like this.. it actually makes sense! : )
On the way to Queenstown, Magda and Jessie decided to jump from a bridge! Don’t worry, we survived, and it wasn’t that bad! A BUNGY JUMP boosted up our adrenalin ONLY A BIT! ;) Check out the photos!
From Queenstown, we decided to go and see the fiords… everybody said that we HAVE to see them…so what could we do? We had to check what they are talking about! They were right! :)
We are half way through the South Island (and the breath taking views)!
And we are ready to go for the second half!
The ”last round” of our Golden Trio!
